Old Cross Cottage Reviews

Catherine
A wonderful house quirky house that suited our blended family perfectly with space to come together and rooms for teenagers to retreat to. Only a few bumped heads with the low ceilings
Weve just returned from our second stay at Old Cross Cottage for February half term and continue to be impressed by the offering. We have visited both times as a party of 8 4 adults and 4 kids and the space and layout works very well for us with two lounge areas and a large kitchen diner. Id echo other comments about the cottage being well stocked both in the kitchen and bedding departments. Its also clear that the owners are continuing to invest in the property as there have been both subtle and obvious updates since our last visit paint and curtains have changed for example. Id highly recommend this place to others for a rural escape thats well connected to some lovely places.
Lovely cottage set in a picturesque Dorset Village. We arrived to a lovely warm cottage decorated with a Christmas tree to spend Christmas with the family and two dogs. Cottage was just as described with enough space to all feel not on top of each other. The fires in both living areas were perfect this time of year and was left with enough wood for our 8 days stay which was great and very generous. Left a very generous welcome pack and some milk to get us started, very lovely touch. The bed in the main bedroom is the most comfortable beds we have ever slept on and everyone said they slept well. The bedding very good quality and makes such a difference. Kitchen very well equipped and has everything you need and more and the dishwasher very welcome after cooking a big meal. We had a great stay here spending Christmas with the family and had everything we needed. Just a couple of things to be made aware of. Ceilings are very low, adds to the charm of the cottage but we all hit our heads at some point so be aware. Garden is over the road which isnt an issue but with two dogs and when they need a wee in the middle night was a bit of a pain so be aware of that. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend to anyone, we really like this part of Dorset and loved exploring the area, we was lucky this time of year and had sunshine most days and no rain which for December was great, we loved walking the dogs here on the beaches and doing a few costal walks and exploring the little towns all around, very close to Devon as well so easy to go there as well. Old Cross Cottage is great and would recommend to anyone to stay.
Lovely property and beautiful location.

Old world charm, blended with every convenience. The setting is beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found so much to see locally. The welcome pack was lovely.
Frances
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this delightful cottage thank you.
Hi, what a fantastic cottage! Very rustic, full of character & history. We all loved our stay, & will recommend it to our friends and family. Fully equipped with everything you could possibly need, located in a lovely village, close to all the other villages & towns. Fantastic pub only 10 minutes up the lane!! Thank you very much
Alicen
Beautiful cottage, centuries old with a lovely atmosphere. We have been here several times and intend to keep going back.
Absolutely fabulous stay and so kind leaving us some local produce we had the best time!
Richard
The cottage was characterful and comfortable. Larger than expected with everything you need including a thoughtful welcome pack. Great to get away from it all but just a short drive to Lyme Regis. Even with the changeable weather we all had a lovely time walking and exploring in the local area followed by drinks at the local pubs! Will be back next year!
Beautiful spacious cottage. Well equipped and plenty of room for us and the children. Very comfortable, clean and cozy. Bridport and Lyme Regis are great for shopping and eating out and the village pub is just up the road.
Rosemary
Parking was tight, as we were told but managed with not too much damage. We had a 1 yyearold with us and although a high chair was there it did not have a cot. I phoned and was told they were not supplied, it didn't turn out to be much of a problem for us as my daughter put a travel cot in last minute, but just warning others. Kitchen pots could have been better, I understand putting in cheap pots in a holiday home but it does not make cleaning easy.
Lovely cottage great layout with plenty of space to accommodate two families comfortably. A great time had by all, especially the children who loved the quirkiness of cottage.
Rebecca
We were disappointed to find that the garden area was separate to the cottage over a road so not ideal for the kids. Loved the cottage itself lots of character, quaint, chocolate box cottage.
We loved our stay at this property. Very quiet but well placed for the lovely Jurassic Coast. Old Cross Cottage is a very characterful old building with all sorts of nooks and crannies so very tall folks beware! We enjoyed the garden across the road and had a lovely barbie there one evening as the sun set. All in all super comfortable and everything worked well. One evening we locked ourselves out and within 30 minutes your emergency back up team had solved our issue, this really shows how using a local company makes sense ! We very much hope to return. A couple of helpful suggestions. The latch on the outer door to the master bedroom suite doesn't shut so we couldn't trust to have the toddler in our party there in case he wandered in the night. Tiny thing to fix would make that little room a bit more child safe. Fabulous welcome bag but no salt or pepper in the kitchen? Always useful on your first night ....Also a dustpan and brush would be helpful to go with the broom provided. Recycling all good but it would be useful to have a few biodegradable food caddy bags provided we bought some and left for the next guests.

We have rated this Old Cross Cottage 4 day stay with family & dogs, highly, as we enjoyed it so much and we were spoilt by the glorious weather a very hot Sep weekend and, taking into account the following. The cottage is very old with an equally old thatched roof, windows & doors. The upstairs floors are uneven and some room floors slope but nothing that we did not acclimatise to quickly. Of course, my grandchildren loved exploring the quirkiness and using the secret stairs leading from the lounge to the bedroom! They had much fun staying here, that they will remember for a long time to come. It is a large cottage that can accommodate 2 families with ease and has all the facilities required to service the stay and our dogs loved the garden where they could run freely, while listening to the cows and farm tractors passing by. The village itself is great for an evening stroll up to the pub or to use the Parish children's play swings behind the school and is ideally located for the beaches at Lyme Regis & Charmouth.
We really enjoyed our second stay at Old Cross Cottage. Our grandson loves the cottage and thinks it was the best holiday ever!
Lovely old cottage tastefully furnished in cottage style. Party consisted 2 pensioners 4 adults 2 teenagers. Boys loved having wifi. Overall we had a nice stay at cottage and thankyou for the welcome pack .
A tired property in desperate need of some TLC.
We had the most wonderful stay at Old Cross Cottage. The cottage was so comfortable, extremely well equipped and had everything we needed. If the weather had been bad we may have even baked a cake as there were the tins etc to enable us to do so! There were 8 of us staying at the cottage. There was plenty of space for everyone as well as plenty of crockery, cutlery glasses etc. The beds were very comfortable, warm duvets and lovely towels. It really was a home from home. Often we have had holiday cottages previously which may have been a bit musty or not very loved. Old Cross Cottage is definitely not like that. Warm, cosy and extremely clean. The conservatory was great for drying wet suits and washing. The plants in there are lovely too. We did water them before we left! They were all doing well, but the Swiss cheese plant was beginning to look a little sad. Im sure it will be fine. The garden is a real sun trap, plenty of chairs, boules etc. we only discovered the bbq once we had sorted our meals for the week but hopefully we will be back and will use it next time. The welcome pack and pint of milk was lovely. It was also great that there was washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, hand wash and plenty of loo rolls. You dont often get this in holiday homes so we had taken our own anyway. My 80 year old mother came with us. She has mobility issues and we had read about the stairs etc. The main stairs were absolutely fine, she took her time, it wasnt an issue. She fell in love with the house and would have found a way to use the other stairs if she had too! Its a lovely old house, the upstairs floorboards creak which is all part of its character and added to the charm. Thank you for letting us stay. We hope to be back.

We had a lovely stay in this charming cottage which is full of character. It is furnished beautifully with lots of trinkets and pictures. The kitchen was very well equipped, there was a good selection of board games and books in the sitting room and also a separate TV room. It was a cold week and yet the cottage felt lovely and warm. The ceilings are low in keeping with the age of the cottage, bunting has been thoughtfully placed to highlight low doorways. There were several sitting areas so lots of spaces for our large family. There are two stairways one is steep and we didnt use it but didnt need to as there is a main stairway which was fine. I suspect the very young or old would find it difficult. The garden is across the street and the cottage is accessed by a typical narrow country lane with parking just off the road. Many thanks for the lovely welcome pack and even a pint of milk in the fridge on arrival. This was our first stay in the area and we will definitely be back.
Its a lovely place and great pub up the road so we will be back in the future, many thanks.
Another lovely stay, thank you. Lyme Bay Cafe Lyme Regis and Anchor Inn Seatown highly recommend.
Lovely cottage, really well stocked with crockery and glassware etc as well and the food gifts were a lovely touch. Its an old house so a bit creaky but very comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay. The only low point is that parking is very tight and be prepared to clean your car after! We were charged for an extra parking space that we requested although had to call on arrival and were then directed to a free parking area behind the village hall.
