The Blue Cottage, Fortuneswell

Fantastic view from the balcony. We had read that there were a lot of steps and this was certainly true. 32 from kitchen to top bedroom! We got fit thats for sure. The kitchen was well stocked maybe at the expense of cupboard space for food etc. It is a lovely quirky cottage and very comfortable to stay in. The bedroom lounge and bathrooms were well equipped and very clean and welcoming the downstairs shower seemed bigger maybe than the upstairs one which was a little tight and we arent that big! Beds were amazingly comfortable pillows too were fabulous and space in the rooms good although the kitchen was tiny and we struggled where to put food. Coop was a short walk 1min away which was handy and a chip shop opposite the coop. There are no other shops a walkable distance. The photos on Sykes site are not totally accurate and need an update and the descriptors also. We were expecting 2 bedrooms with tv plus one without and also one of the rooms is shown on the photo as 2 beds and described as a family room. Only the top bedroom had a tv. And there was one in the lounge. All bedrooms only had one bed. There is no decking out the back as shown on the photos either. As indicated the view was spectacular but the balcony is in need of maintenence as a number of the boards are wobbly and crumbling which wasnt pleasant especially as no shoes were to be worn upstairs. There were some minor niggles that didn't necessitate bothering the host over. The lock on the bathroom door needed fixing and we couldn't lock it. The tv consistently suddenly lost terrestrial channels we didn't watch too much anyway. There was no data or phone signal at the property but the WiFi worked well. Our main issue with the property was the parking. Advertised as 2 spaces it was often really tricky to even get into one. There was a blue car permanently positioned next to our 1 numbered allocated space that had they parked even 6 inches to the left would have made things a lot easier. We do not own a large car, a medium hatch back struggled to get in the space. The 'visitor parking space' was from part way through our break used by someone moving in next door which was ok as we worked together to help each other in and out. There is a free car park just down the road which my parents used when visiting. The description needs to reflect parking accurately. We particularly chose this property as it had advertised parking. All in all it was a lovely stay marred by parking issues we weren't expecting but the new neighbours seem lovely and friendly.

Presented to a very high spefication with facilities spread over 4 levels. You get used to the stairs and end up fitter for it. The property is on the main road which is a mixed blessing. Close to the supermarket and pubs but with some pedestrian and traffic noise. Overall it is a good stay and with a few improvements could be even better. a Mats on stairs are an accident waiting to happen. b a waste bin needed in the kitchen. c A plethora of rules etc don't make for a good welcome, especially as most of them end in an exclamation mark!

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage we would thoroughly recommend it! The beach and amenities are very close by and the cottage itself was immaculately presented. Thankyou!

Fantastic holiday home, exceptional balcony on top floor with amazing views. Kitchen is lovely but isn't big enough, needs room to store food and could do with a newer fridge as it doesn't fit in. The parking was ok while there was only 1 other car there, we have a Skoda Kodiak and when there was someone parked opposite it was very difficult to get pur vehicle into the parking space. It is advertised as having 2 parking spaces available but we could only find 1, if the other person who was due to come down had have they would not have been able to park as there was not enough room. Over all though it is a lovely house and I would recommend it.

We had lovely stay. The property is very clean and tidy. Very handy location.

Lovely town cottage , only comment was a Mercedes was parked in one of our allocated spaces during our stay , it never moved ! . we only had 1 car so wasnt a problem but if we had 2 cars then it would of been . Also , lots of stairs , no problem for us , but be aware if you are less mobile . Lovely balcony on top floor overlooking the sea , highly recommend

The property is very clean but it has problems. The kitchen is effectively in a basement at the rear and is bit of a disaster. It's small, there's no real space to put your food. There is an unusable wooden table and 6 chairs which a family could not eat at. We ate in the 1st floor living area, which means you have to go up and down 2 flights of stairs. The kitchen also has in it a foldable metal table and chairs for use on the raised wooden patio at the rear. The steps on the raised wooden patio are not straight and have splitting chicken wire on them. Both showers are very small especially the one in the ensuite Another resident informed us that parking is only for one car not the 2 stated

We had a fantastic holiday at Blue Cottage. Very well presented and lovely decor. I'll start from bottom of the house to 4th floor. The house had everything you needed from cooking facilities ovenhob, microwave, kettle including all the utensils. The trays were a very thoughtful item to help carry dinner up the 23 flights of stairs. Loungedining room was spacious, TV had access to Netflix, little touches like board games too. Bedding was well presented with plenty of hanging space for your holiday clothes. 2 bathrooms with a bath and shower. Top bedroom with balcony was stunning, we ended up cancelling our table reservation out for evening dinner to instead sit on the balcony and eat watching the sunset. Constructive feedback List all the little details on the website as we were not aware of absolutely everything they had in the house for example, we brought our own high chair, bath anti slip mat for the little one, own iron, etc when we could have saved space in the very full car as the holiday house had it all.

We enjoyed our stay at Blue Cottage. It was very clean, and the beds very comfortable. There is space to park the car through a secure gate, which is where we accessed the door through to the kitchen. The road leading to the property is one way, and can get busy. We looked out for the Coop and knew then to slow down for the gate to the property. The property is over 4 floors, with lovely views from the balcony on the top floor. Thanks for supplying some books games and films, they helped on a rainy afternoon. It was all well stocked with Kitchen utensils, dishwasher kettle and toaster. There is a washing machine and iron ironing board. We spent time sightseeing and walking In Portland. Some amazing views across to Weymouth and the Jurassic Coast. The road to from Chesil beach is very steep, need some sensible shoes! I would recommend Blue Cottage.

Stayed at the Blue Cottage for 3 days. Blown away by the large balcony on the top floor and what a view. Wonderful. Furnished really well and very clean. The bus stop was very near so it gave us an opportunity to explore the area withoit having to drive. A real bonus. The 6 of us really enjoyed our stay. We met the owner when we left, a nice very helpful lady.

We had a lovely stay at the Blue Cottage , very elegant and neutral colours and spacious. Beds where super comfy. Kitchen had everything you needed for a weeks stay. Amazing sea view from the balcony. Unfortunately the main oven had dried up white grease all over in the bottom of oven. After cleaning the oven , I found out it wasn't even working. The shower heads in both bathrooms need some serious limescale removal treatment. This lovely cottage is not suitable for a familys with young children as it has lots of stairs and no child stairgates on foor of living room & bedrooms. Also not suitable for people with mobility issues. Sorry to say we won't be able to stay there again

We were very pleased with the property. There were a couple of issues which were dealt with but perhaps could have been avoided. The contact number for the owner is incorrect on the information sent out. Luckily I was able to solve that issue. There is no cot available. This needs updating on the website. More precise information regarding where to park at the back of the property would be helpful. Details on how to use the appliances and turning on the fuse switches would also be useful and would have saved the owner receiving several calls from me. We would thoroughly recommend this lovely, well situated property and hope to revisit in the future.

A great home with amazing sea views and well positioned for local costal walks and to visit other towns by car or bus. Very clean and really spacious. Loved the balcony

What a beautiful place to stay! ! We feel so lucky to have found The Blue Cottage and have it as our base for the week. It's a really relaxing property and you just can't beat that view! Clean, tidy and beautifully decorated we would definitely come back again. Thankyou!

A well kept cottage, clean, comfortable, very nice seaview, nice interior design. We just loved it.
