The Oast House Reviews

The property is in a fantastic location, within easy walking distance to the harbour, the sea and the shopping centre. The gated courtyard means that there is no passing traffic noise, but the clientelle from the nearby pubs can be a little noisy at closing time, particularly at the weekend. This is only short lived however, so not a huge problem. The Oasthouse itself is a lovely property, with masses of space for a family to spread out. The seating and beds are very comfortable, and the bedding of a fine quality. The property may not be ideal for the frail or partially sighted, as there are many steps and the floor is of a uniform coloured wood, so there's nothing to demark these. We also found the sound insulation between the property and that located to the left of it as you face the Oasthouse to be insufficient, as those of us located in the rooms next to this property could hear the voices and the movement of people next door clearly, so I would put heavy sleepers in those rooms! The wood floors in both obviously don't help with this either. Overall though, we would very much recommend this property as a comfortable, well equipped and spacious getaway in a very special location.
Steven
Excellent property. Very spacious, plenty of room for 10. Fabulous location. Great not having to drive to the townbeach. Liked that it was gated as it felt secure. Glad to have a washing machine and two airers to use. We have already booked for next year.
Adrian
We had great time but why is patio area so dirty not cleaned And I realise not your fault but Brewers Quay shut and being renovated was a real disappointment. . Think this needs to be noted in the info property
Rebecca
We loved our stay thank you! We did struggle with the cold though and the heating didn't work throughout the weekend and there was no answer from the emergency contact number. On visiting the office on Monday morning we did get someone to visit quickly.
Christine
We stayed at The Oast House for a New Year break, despite a few niggles, the house was absolutely perfect for us and having parking for three vehicles was ideal, especially around the harbour area. We absolutely loved our stay, a fantastic time was had by all. The property was spotlessly clean and the beds, sofas and dining chairs were really comfortable. It was ideal having the two separate reception rooms, although the second sitting room could do with some additional lamps, as it was quite dark. We did have to phone Sykes to advise that the boiler was not working, unfortunately their system of reporting faults means you have to leave a at the end of your voicemail, however, this isn't explained unless you actually get to speak to someone, so that was a bit of a waste of time!! A dustpan and brush would be useful and a separate recycling bin too, it would also be useful if the maintenance could check that there are replacement light bulbs and batteries, as we had to replace both!!
We had an amazing stay at The Oast House there were 10 of us including 4 children and the house was a fantastic base exceptionally laid out and suited all our needs. The parking arrangement was superb as all our 3 cars were secure. Within walking distance to everything we needed supermarkets beach front the Nothe the children found the squirrels fascinating and not forgetting the local pubs Absolutely everything was catered for no complaints at all

Back from a super weekend at this property. We were a group of 10 ladies away for a 4 day weekend to celebrate our friend getting married. On first arrival we were surprised that the house is in effect upside down, rooms on the ground floor and kitchen and living space upstairs, I don't think I had realised this when booking. This didn't matter to us but just be prepared to carry food upstairs. The space itself is fantastic the bedrooms are large and with ensuites on 2 them, and a main bathroom for the other 2. All the towels and bed linens were fresh and clean. The main living area, kitchen and sitting rooms is quite special especially with the mezzanine level that was a fun little nook to sit. The kitchen is well equipped with lots of glasses, cutlery, plates and pans. I do think some sort of labelling would be a good idea as we had to really hunt for a chopping board and cheese grater. Being a group of 10 it was essential we had space to all sit and you can fit 10 round the table but maybe a little squeeze. The 2 lounge spaces had lovely big sofas that went out onto the courtyard, which meant we could have the doors open to let in some of the sea air. Just watch in the evening as there is no light out there and we found a number of slugs. The main lounge has the most fantastic ceiling and we loved turning the light on in the evening making that room bright. Some info on this part of the property would have been nice or a little history as we found it fascinating. There is minimal noise in the area and despite being right in the harbour you couldn't hear the pubs and restaurants. The parking is perfect for a property of this size and it's nice to know you have 3 generous spaces right outside in the gated driveway. We did find that someone from another property had parked there when we returned from being out but the management company helped sort that and got the cars moved. Usually the big gates are shut but they were left open all weekend. As a group of 10 we felt that it might have been handy to have more than 1 key as sometimes we did get split up and people had to wait for others to get back. Overall we loved the property it was perfect for our needs and location, I know that some were already thinking of coming back. If you book it you won't be disappointed!
Lesley
Beautiful house. Great for a large group of people.had everything we needed in it.we picked it for the outdoor area and the parking spaces.however we thought the outdoor area was abit dirty and could do with jet washing.we had a few ants in the living room.i stayed in the yellow bedroom.it was lovely but could do with blackout curtains.apart from that its a beautiful house in a perfect spot near the harbour.loved it.
We were very happy with the property, this is the second year we have stayed and have already booked for a third. We really liked the addition of the Christmas tree and leaving the roasting trays was thoughtful and a nice touch. Two issues, one minor....... There were only 9 large plates which seems churlish to mention when all other crockery and utensils were plentiful and there was an issue with the shower in the family bathroom as it kept falling off the wall. Otherwise, perfect!
Richard
The property is great for large parties like ours, especially the location and parking spaces. We had 2 issues whilst on holiday, the first being that the property is infested with ants. One of the bedrooms, the living room and especially the kitchendining room constantly had ants crawling about no matter how many we killed. We found ant stations under the radiator covers so this is obviously a known problem. The second was that one of the showers in the bedroom was stuck on hot. We did report this, but it was not fixed during our stay. This was our third time staying in property but unfortunately due to the ant problem we wont be returning.
We have enjoyed our stay at The Oast House. We were surprised to be asked to clean a property prior to departure, especially as no cleaning products were provided. On our arrival, we were disappointed to find the outdoor space was filthy. We swept and cleaned the tables and patio to make them usable, we were also disappointed to find there were insufficient household items provided, such as black bin bags, dishwasher tablets and loo rolls. The property is a lovely property, in a superb location, however we identified the following issues At least 4 lightbulbs were not working, which we have now removed. The light fittings over the shaving mirrors in two of the downstairs bathrooms were broken, as is a shaver socket. No temperature control in the master bathroom shower, and the fitting is dripping loudly. The washing machine is extremely noisy and therefore can only be run during the day. The hot water had been turned off, which we did manage to override, but caused us to be without hot water for a period of time. In the downstairs family bathroom, the shower door is almost impossible to close properly, causing water to leak onto the floor. The airier is weak, and about to break. The table outside is not secure and would be really dangerous had we had young children. A recommendation would be hooks on the back of bedroom doors, especially the upstairs bedroom. And soap dishes in the showers would also be useful. We hope you can pass these comments onto the owner.
A fantastic property in a great location. It is a lovely conversion of the old oust house and has many interesting characteristics. It was a good size and easily accommodated us all family gathering of 9 adults. It was comfortable and has all the facilities you could need for catering at home if you wanted to. The location was very central but the otherside of the harbour from the town centre which meant is was a bit quieter but still easily in range of pubs, restaurants, shops etc. It also had private access with code operated gates which meant only residents were within the grounds. Negatives, none really, we would only say that some of facilities are starting to show their age and use. For example, some Kitchen doors starting to sag, main bathroom shower door not sealing properly, a fresh lick of paint needed in some areas etc. but nothing that stopped us enjoying ourselves.
Large, airy, comfortable home in a lovely location, just what we were looking for. One of the younger guests called it amazing! Thank you for a lovely break.
The house was great but a few niggles light bulbs not working making dining room dark . Washing machine makes a lot of noise and dryer not very efficient. Everything else was great.
The property was not as listed, it says 2 bedrooms on 1st floor there was only 1 twin. We were unable to take advantage of the outside patio as it was not very clean and very worn out with covers ripped and not attractive, the weather was beautiful and we would have loved eating out there as the dining room was dark. Saying that we really enjoyed our stay the area we were in was marvellous nice and out of the way, close to a few good restaurants, crabbing, and Nothe Fort was in walking distance. I have mobility issues and would not recommend this property for anyone with similar issues as there are a lot of steps inside, however, we all really enjoyed our stay.
Richard
The Oast House is in an excellent location and well equipped with excellent wifi. The two fridges were perfect for an extended family as was the expansive living space. Very comfortable beds and very quiet at night with a feeling of being safe and secure meant a good sleep was had by all. Maybe more instruction on the automatic gates when leaving would be useful. We watched others managing to leave without getting out of their cars and tried a few different methods but in the end we had to run round and open them from the outside. Not a massive inconvenience, though.
Our party of 9 5 adults and 4 children had a wonderful holiday in the Oast House. It provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay and there was plenty of room for all of us. The secure parking for all of our 3 cars was brilliant. The position in Hope Square meant that we were within easy reach of all Weymouth's attractions. The children particularly enjoyed crabbing in the harbour. The courtyard was so pretty and was a great place for meals as the weather was so hot. We would definitely recommend the Oast House for larger families.
Gillian
Very spacious accommodation with lots of separate seating areas, great for socialising or for members of the group to do different activities. Plenty of space for children to play, even though theres no garden. Its a quirky property with an unusual layout, and a floor plan would be very useful to help people work out whether it will meet the needs of their party. Its not suitable for the disabled as the stairs are a bit steep and you cant avoid using them. Three bedrooms are downstairs, but the living space is upstairs. Anyone sleeping in the upstairs bedroom still needs to go downstairs for a shower, as the upstairs WC does not have bathingshowering facilities. Most bedrooms are quite spacious and the beds are comfortable. A previous reviewer complained about the condition of the sofas, but these have been replaced and the furniture is fine. A review from August 2021 complained about the washing machine, and this still needs replacing. At a certain point in the cycle it makes a loud banging noise as if someone is hammering on the door. Its a complex washer dryer and I could find no instructions. The kitchen area is slightly tired, but well equipped with cutlery, plates, mugs, etc for large groups. Its worth being aware that the floors throughout the property are wooden, including the stairs, and its a bit noisy when people walk round. This shouldnt be a problem for most people, but we had a baby in our group and found ourselves having to tiptoe around to avoid waking him. The location is great, being so close to the action but at the same time quiet and peaceful. You can walk to ASDA in under 10 minutes, its a short walk to the beach, and we didnt use our cars all week. Parking was very convenient and the property felt safe and secure. We liked The Oast House.
Kirsty
We liked Great location short walk to beach, take away options on its doorstep and surrounded by beautiful unspoilt period buildings, with the parking also being a big plus. Excellent internal spaces, full of character we were a party of 10 6 adults and 4 kids there was loads of room for the kids to play hide and seek was a winner, we all fit around the dining table, the main lounge saw a few nights of board games and we all fit in there comfortably and the courtyard was nice to chill in at breakfast. The WiFi was good but we were happy that we only used it to check out the nearby food options as the kids had more fun making up their own games rather than caring about playing on their devices. Points for improvement Cleaners could do with steam cleaning the floor! I dont think it has ever seen even a mop, most left their shoes on because of it and I found myself washing my feet before bed or putting shoes on! The tables in he courtyard area were also thick with dirt that I didnt expect to have to wipe down on arrival so we could eat at them for breakfast. I get that it is an outside area so rain and wind make a mess, but the cleaners would have been there at some point before we arrived! A floor plan on these listings would be great. I miss read the listing as I saw ground floor bedroom shown as a key feature. It was a factor in my choosing this property as we had a disabled person in out group. I hadnt payed attention to other wording that mentioned that the living areas were on the 1st floor, making a downstairs bedroom redundant as we werent about to leave that person in their downstairs bedroom while we all had fun upstairs. We ended up having to swap bed rooms so they could be on the floor with the living spaces but, there is no shower or bath up there, only a nightmare of a toilet for anyone who is not able bodied. This meant a few tricky trips up and down the stairs. So a floor plan would be great to help make it clear to people like me who didnt register the listing properly. But a ground floor bedroom should not be listed as a key feature when all the other living areas are not accessible from the same floor.
My daughter came to your office and told your staff of the various issues that we felt should be reported. All the family loved the property for its quirkiness comfort and position. The cleaning could be better though.
Very disappointed with several things at the house. We go away every year and pay a lot of money for the weekend. This is the only house we have been let down on in several years. I have complained to your company and listed all the items.
Fantastic house in great location.
The location of the house was perfect lots of cafes and pubs nearby, and just a short walk to the beautiful harbour. Nothe Fort and the beach were both only a 1015mins walk. We also found the 3 parking spaces invaluable. The house had everything we needed for 9 people and was very comfortable. However, the property is looking a little tired and some areas could do with an upgrade particularly the shower in the family bathroom, the washing machine, cushions for the patio, and the blinds in the triple room. We also thought that with the late checkin the house would have been slightly cleaner, and as with all other properties we've stayed at we would have appreciated a welcome pack including the basics such as milk, tea etc. None of these issues spoilt our holiday though, and we would stay again at the Oast House.
Daniel
The house is fantastic and was both spacious and in a great location. We had a party of 8 but the house could definitely accommodate 10. The facilities were great with enough bathrooms for the number of guests. The outdoor alfresco dining area was a highlight, but we were lucky to have a week of sunshine. The location is close to some fantastic restaurants and having three secured parking places was a major bonus. Our only issues were the hot water running out once or twice. Sykes dealt with this immediately by sending a plumber who turned on the immersion to deal with the problem. The second issue is the WiFi which can't really handle more than two people using it simultaneously. These were annoying but not show stopping and we would definitely use the Oast House again booking via Sykes. The quality of the place, and location, far outweighed some minor annoyances, and more importantly the attention to detail such as having enough glasses, cutlery etc. available for the guests, meant everyone had an enjoyable and comfortable experience. Highly recommended.
Our break at the Oast House was in Feb 2020 halfterm, we were a party of 9 ages ranging from 14 to 82. The location of the Oast house was perfect for us everything was in close proximity to the House Pubs, shops and great walks, allowing us to have some non driving days. We had parking for all 3 cars which was a big plus. The house was very spacious, so allowed us to spread out!! I would say that there are a lot of steps inside as many rooms were on different levels my dad of 82 did find this quite a challenge. It was rather cold on arrival but once we had sussed out the heating, we got it quite toasty! I think that the one major problem we had was the WiFi as it was not clearly man enough for the job. Some of our party had to work and at certain times found the WiFi dropping out constantly, quite frustrating. We did think that the place looked tired in places and would welcome a little investment. But with all that said We did enjoy our stay very much it was great to get the whole family together in one place.
We particularly enjoyed the location, even though we were in a lively area of Weymouth, we were tucked away in a quite road, so everything we needed was on our doorstep, brilliant, thank you.
Christine
The property was fabulous and close to everything. We were there to celebrate my husbands 80th birthday with all the family, ages ranging 18 months to 80 and all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The high standard in the house was amazing that one of my grandsons said Nan I feel like a millionaire staying here
Yvonne
We had a lovely holiday, the property was lovely. It was spacious, clean and very well equipped and the location was brilliant. On the downside, the neighbors couldn't be much less friendly and made it clear we were not wanted there not sure why we are just two families, no wild parties and no kids climbing around in the courtyard but they still didn't seem to be prepared to be friendly. No matter, we had a lovely time and will definitely revisit the Oast House, it was ideal for our requirements.
We have been using Dream cottages for the last 11 years over the same weekend and have been very happy with the service. We are however very concerned about the price increases next year and this will unfortunately make us have to look elsewhere.
My family and I had a fantastic holiday in Weymouth. The property was perfect for our needs and within walking distance of everything . We did not use our cars at all. We appreciated all the bathrooms and 2 fridges with such a large number . My daughter found the family perfect for her family and we thought the other double could also be used as a family room . We are definitely going to book the Oast House again for our family holiday. Stayed July 2018.
Great 2nd stay at the Oast House 1st was in May 2012. Everything was there that was needed. More than enough crockery glassware etc etc. Also really appreciated the new Mediterranean style patio which was fully used during the good weather days. The conservatory is also a great space when multiple occupants are in the property. For a property this size, with the potential numbers of occupants, we think it would be useful to have a second set of keys available as standard on arrival. This has been the case when staying at Rowington and Admirals Quarter. We were fortunate to get a spare set of keys from the Dream Cottage office, which made it much easier when some occupants went out, and some stayed in. Again, really enjoyed our stay in a fantastic property. Stayed May 2018
The property is very well located near the quayside in Weymouth, giving great access to the town and many local attractions. It was very clean and the beddingtowels provided were of a good standard. For 8 people this is a very spacious property, with a very good selection of communal rooms. Having been an Oast House as it says on the tin! this means the building has great character and is slightly quirky. All in all we had a great time, this being our second visit in the last year stayed October 2016
A beautiful property in a perfect location. Thank you for a very enjoyable holiday. Stayed April 2016
Fantastic place, really homely. Popped into the office to say hi when i arrived and the staff member i spoke with was brilliant. Really impressed and would definitely book again. Stayed New Year 2015
Great accommodation. Central for everything. Would recommend the Oast house to friends and family. I would give it 5 stars.
We couldn't have been happier with the property. We hope to return one day as it was one of the best holidays we have ever had.
