2 Old Home Farm Reviews

Excellent location for exploring the Jurassic Coast Easy walks available within the Estate grounds. House was extremely spacious, warm and clean.
Well appointed house, surpassed our expectations.
We enjoyed our recent stay at 2 Old Home Farm. Its in the perfect location for those of us who love this part of the world easy access to stunning coastline and countryside. The house is well equipped and reasonably comfortable but, in our view, does need some improvement. We chose the property initially for more of us and because we believed there to be a ground floor bedroom with ensuite. Due to some unavoidable family issues there were only three of us in the end. This was fortunate as the ground floor bedroom does not have an ensuite as described, rather a very small room off the kitchen which is unheated. Had my brother who has mobility issues been with us he would not have been able to manage.
Lovely place, the house is quite old, it has a lot of charm and the furniture is gorgeous. The private estate is also really beautiful, and the private beach sounds great, although we didn't try it. I would love if there was a fence to the only neighboring house, as we would've loved to be able to keep our small dog off leash inside the garden, but that was not recommended.

The house is lovely and very homely. We had a great stay over the Easter weekend! Really nothing to be critical of just small details such as the kitchen knives could do with being replaced and some extra bin bags with a bit of clarification re the disposal of the rubbish would have been helpful as the bin was already full before we got there. These are very minor things which did not diminish the lovely time we had.

Our extended family had a great time here. What a beautiful estate. Lots of nice flat walks for my parents and a great adventure for the younger members of the family exploring the pathway to the beach and having swims in the sea. Beautifully furnished and comfy beds for all. Its a ten out of ten for us
Lovely house in a very quiet spot

Front door key defeated us, gained entry through the back door. It is a lovely garden but we couldn't leave the back door open as our naughty 5 year old Shih Tzu could slip through either gate. Maybe some small fencing addition to the gates would keep it safe for smaller dogs. Shower in main bathroom a bit dodgy, very poor flow. Everything else was great. But it is the Rousdon Estate. Lovely setting with interesting buildings. Visited Rousdon twice in four months.
THE PLACE WAS NOT CLEANED OR PREPARED ON OUR ARRIVAL. WE COULD NOT GET INTO THE FRONT DOOR AS THERE WERE BRAMBLES ALL OVER THE PATH. THE TV DID NOT WORK AND WE MISSED THE FOOTBALL FINAL!!!! WE TRIED TO CONTACT THE OWNERS BUT NO RESPONSE. WE TRIED TP CONTACT SYKES HOLIDAY COTTAGES AND IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE BY PHONE OR INTERNET ..VERY POOR SERVICE AND MISLEADING ADVERTISING. YOU SHOULD GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!!!!!!

We enjoyed our family holiday here. The location is great only a few minutes from Lyme Regis and Seaton. You can even walk to either of these on the coastal path in a few hours if you want a challenge. The cottage is beautiful, clean and comfortable with enough space and bathrooms for all. The kitchen not having an extractor fan was the only thing we missed. The walks around the estate were perfect for our dogs. We also highly recommend the coffee shop over the road from the estate entrance. The walk down to the beach is definitely not suitable for grandparents or toddlers but to be fair we were warned of this and the adults, dogs and older kids loved the adventure and having it all to ourselves.
We had a lovely break and on the whole fantastic location and home but the following were little niggles Shower in main bathroom had such a slow flow it was unusable. Also needs a bath mat in the bath as very slippy. The bathroom window also overlooks another property and could do with frosted glass!! We had to close the blind each time we used the bathroom. Back garden entrance was very overgrown and could do with trimming, also raises bricks on the path were dangerous for my Dad who is very unsure on his feet
Fantastic location. Great for dog walks on the estate. Close to Lyme Regis and Seaton. Very relaxing and we will be back.
This was our second visit to 2 Old Home Farm, this time we stayed for a week. As before, the property was very clean on arrival and well equipped with everything we needed. The location is lovely and peaceful but also very close to nearby towns & the beach at Lyme Regis. We were a family of 6 adults, 1 baby & 1 dog & there was plenty of space in the property for everyone. We just had a couple of niggles which I think have been mentioned in previous reviews. The shower in the downstairs shower room would not drain away. We used a plunger to help clear it but I think this needs looking at properly. The heating in the kitchen & downstairs shower room didnt seem to work the whole week we were there & the door from the lounge out into the hall doesnt shut properly. None of these things would prevent us from returning & we would happily come back again to 2 Old Home Farm

Few things Please sort out the upstairs main toilet door handle adults can open it but my 13 & 10 year old got stuck in multiple times. The downstairs shower is not blocked but overfills the tray after a 10 min shower ? Plumbing as it gurgles when the sink is used. A path to the back gate would be nice as it was very muddy and the cars are parked at the back of the property. It would be nice to have recycling facilities as we produced a lot of waste as we ate more convenience food and it was heartbreaking to not recycle what we could. Otherwise the property is beautifully decorated, spacious rooms, everything we needed for 3 familys to interact but also have time out. My parents coped well there and that was what it was all about.
Thank you for a delightful break. A perfect retreat for our family of three adult generations plus our dogs. All bedrooms are bright, spacious, clean and comfortable. The downstairs bedroom and shower room were perfect for Grandad. The large hallway is very large an excellent area for dogs crates and bags upon arrival. The kitchen is clean, well equipped and everything works well. Good WiFi connection. The Estate is fabulous wonderful to walk around. So much history! The path to the private beach is steep and not suitable at certain times of year or for everyone but our son said it was stunning. We, on the other hand only got so far but the track was gloriously unspoilt. We will look forward to returning.
Christopher
Lovely property in a great location. Highly recommended.
Almost everything was excellent. Very spacious. Beds supercomfortable. Facilities great. Even the parking was fine. Other residents were interesting and friendly. Great for dogs super walks in the grounds. The 'private beach' was, we found, inaccessible for anyone with dodgy knees. The descent is too steep. My only complaint is about the sink in the downstairs shower room. It was basically blocked, though the water would drain away in a few minutes. Effectively made it unusable for facewashing and a bit awkward for handwashing and toothcleaning the positioning of the cabinet didn't help the latter, either. We do intend to book for next year! Ideal spot for us, the children, grandchildren and dog!

The Rousdon Estate is a fantastic place to stay. There are good short walks around the estate with a lot of interesting and quirky buildings to look at. For longer walks, the massive plus is that the estate has its own path down to the Undercliff about half way along from where you can walk to Seaton or Lyme Regis. If you cross the Undercliff path the private path continues on to a private beach which was virtually deserted both times we went although the path is quite challenging. 2, Old Home Farm itself is a very clean, airy and wellappointed house which had easily enough space and seats, etc for seven of us. The large fridgefreezer was particularly welcome as we did a lot of cooking ourselves. The house also has a nice sunny garden, front and back. We didn't have any of the problems previous guests had with showers we've had a lot worse! However, although it was very clean, we did have a few niggles about how the house had been left for us. First, we had asked when booking and also by phone the week before we came for both the beds in bedrooms 1 & 3 to be made up as superkings. We had received an email saying that this would be done but bedroom 3 was still a twin when we arrived. We had to ziplink it ourselves and luckily we had brought a spare double sheet and duvet. Second, like the previous reviewer in April we were pretty appalled to be greeted by a pile of 26 empty bottles just lying around outside the back of the house. Then we found a further 14 bottles in a food waste bin in the same location, making 40 in all. Clearly the cleaners expected that it was future guests' responsibility to dispose of their predecessors' empties. Anyway, we put them all in black sacks and put them in the orange top black bin where all rubbish and recycling has to go and put the bin out on Tuesday night for Wednesday collection. We found out about this in the guest book but it would be helpful if this info could be displayed more prominently. In addition, there was no outside bucket for cleaning our dog's paws after a muddy walk so we bought a Lyme Regis Crab Bucket. Before leaving, we wrote 2, Old Home Farm on this bucket and left it outside the back door for future dog owning guests to use, so we hope that it is still there. Finally, we would like to say that these were only minor irritations and we really enjoyed our stay at 2, Old Home Farm and on the Rousdon estate and would definitely recommend it
Just returned from a 3 night stay and wish we could have stayed longer. We travelled as a family 6 adults, 1 child & 1 dog and found the property to be very spacious, clean and comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped, water was always hot and the garden was pretty and safe for the dog. There were just a couple of negative things. One being all the showers were fairly weak, particularly the one over the bath. Secondly, the outside bins were full of rubbish from the previous occupants. We realise the bins are only emptied once per week but it did make it a bit tricky getting rid of our own rubbish. Plus, seeing a load of wine and beer bottles outside the property on arrival was a bit unsightly. The estate & surrounding area is lovely, very peaceful, with easy access to Lyme & other townsvillages. We would happily book this property again & hope to return next year.

Maintenance Shower over bath does not work Ensuite Basin plug does not stay ... Maintenance Shower over bath does not work Ensuite Basin plug does not stay down Left side of toaster does not work Inner hall door catch does not work Housekeeping There were no oven gloves The above whilst inconvenient did not affect our enjoyment of the property and Rousdon Estate

This is a lovely property and is very well equipped. We were very comfortable especially as there was plenty of wood to light the fire given the cold weather so we were very toasty. Our only slight concern was the length of time it took for the water cistern in the en suite bathroom to refill after flushing... Would definitely stay here again. Thank you.
We loved staying at 2 Old Home Farm. We were dreaming of relaxing by an open fire, and the plentiful log supply made the dream come true! Luxurious bed linen and such comfortable beds meant good night's sleeps all round. The dogs were extremely happy with the garden, and we all loved the walks around the estate and local environs. A hiccup with the plumbing was solved quickly and without fuss, with a very helpful and friendly person on the phone, fielding our concerns. And what a lovely, airy, spacious house. We particularly loved the openness and grandeur of the hall, landing and staircase. Joyous! If we were to be really picky, perhaps there could be some larger bath towels in the mix.
Richard
Very pleased with the house and lovely location.
Charlina
We had a lovely stay at 2 old home farm, the estate is beautiful, all the local residents we met was very friendly. The house its self had everything you could need, the only issues we had was, in the main bedroom upstairs the end of the bed was broken, it was on the floor when we arrived. But during the week as I walked past it I scrapped my leg and cut it. I did leave a note as I felt this should be fixed before the next person stays there and happens again. Also there was 5 of us staying, there was only towels left our for 3 people, luckily we took beach towels too so had enough with us but if we hadn't it would have been a bit tricky. Apart from that we has a lovely time and I cant fault the house.
Just the most beautiful place to relax for our fortnight in Devon. The Estate is close enough to Lyme Regis for great beaches, cafes, bookshops, bakery and TescoCoop express with a largeTesco at Axemouth for more choice. The house offers comfortable, flexible accommodation with lovely room sizes. Perfect sized garden for our needs and secure. Everyone we met on the Estate were friendly and helpful offering a lift from the entrance to the door on a day we were caught out by rain! The bus service to Lyme was regular, reasonably priced and on time. All in all, the whole family were very impressed with all the house and estate had to offer.
