Pippin Reviews

A lovely spot weve stayed before, but there are a few improvements that would make it even better Electrics need checking, as the fuse tripped twice when cooking the evening meal. Kitchen area has insufficient lighting, making it unsuited to cooking and washing up we gave the same feedback after our last stay. Batterypowered supplementary lights were not working. Accommodation instructions need updating, as they dont fully reflect Pippin, e.g. no second key, no wasterecycling instructions, and no dirty linen bag. It was useful to have a checkup phone call from Sykes Cottages on the Saturday morning, but then disappointing that no one called back to advise on the location of the second key.

We love the property, its location, aspect, layout, and furnishings, this is our third stay at the cottage. However, we cannot ignore the problems we encountered on our latest visit. The cleanliness of the property is questionable dead woodlice behind the doors, under bedroom furniture, dirt in the corners etc, is not acceptable. There is a significant amount of wear and tear of the furnishings, plastic kitchen utensils need replacing as they have melted and general upkeep is required. Pippin is in need of some proper TLC, as it is a fabulous cottage and one we do like very much.
So many little thing need doing, doors sticking, bathroom locks don't lock, cobwebs, and the windows need a good clean. Having said all that it is a lovely house in a super village by the sea

7 of us adults stayed for 2 nights at Pippin a lovely welcome bag full of tasty treats and milk in the fridge waiting for us. The property is beautiful, particularly the living area with its high vaulting ceiling and plenty of space to spread out. Its furnished and decorated to a high spec and has a very well equipped kitchen. Its in a great location, near to pubs, eateries and the beach. Lots of great walks from the house. Negatives were mainly due to lack of maintenance and care for the house. The main issue was the dishwasher it doesnt rinse properly and dries food debris on to everything. This meant everything was dirty and anything we used had to be washed first. We didnt bother using it after the first load came out. Fridge door shelf broken, had to remove the plug unit in the main bathroom to use the shower or you stood ankle deep in water very quickly. Broken hook on back of bathroom door, broken coat stand at the front door. The house looks like it needs a proper clean overall. We saw the cleaner as we were leaving they told us they have reported all of this before. Certainly some of the reviews stayed the same issues. I gave up when I tried to report the dishwasher using the number through the Sykes app on the Saturday morning I went from 7th to 4th and up to 8th in the queue over about 20 minutes! Decided to get on with enjoying the weekend instead. So would I go back? Only if it was repaired and maintained as needed we spent over 700 for the weekend and feel the companies renting it out could do better. If I was the owner I would want to know about these issues.

This house needs repairs and cleaning to bring it up to the level it was advertised at obviously a few years old Such a shame its been ignored and just a quick clean before the next guests arrive!
Drainage issues reported by previous visitors still an issue. Main bathroom you can have a shower ankle deep in water. En suite shower can run for about 3 minutes before shower tray is flooded. Shower pressure is uncontrollably high, which makes matters worse, and rail fixing isnt tight so its impossible to control direction of spray. Hook on back of en suite door still broken. Not just one but two light bulbs now gone in en suite bathroom. I didnt report these issues during our stay because Lyme bay holidays are terrible to get hold of, the only way I could let them know our bedding set up prior to our holiday was to use their complaint form. Everything in kitchenliving room gets crazy hot if you are out for day with balcony doors shut. Food in kitchen sweats and goes off really fast. Not a great design for a summer and we didnt even have amazing weather, it would be pretty bad in a really great weather week. Bad smell coming from under fridge. Fridge either too warm or freezes food at back because the door seal isnt good. Plates and bowls in cupboards not clean dishwasher doesnt rinse properly. I measured my car against archway measurements given should have been fine but listing does not describe the bend in the narrow track and fact that stones and wooden fence make it narrower at the house end. Info in welcome folder is muddled, out of date, lots of duplicate sheets. No recycling at all. Lots of reasons I would not recommend this place and definitely would not recommend Lyme Bay holidays. They dont give a monkeys about their clients.
Broken hook on en suite door Flickering lights Broken dining room chair Air fryer on recall list? Old bird dirt on balcony furniture. Barbecue unusable due to dirty, rusty condition Information manual out of date Oven had not been cleaned prior to arrival
Lovely property. Really enjoyed our stay. Couple of niggles like hot water breaking down and second set of keys not available but all sorted out very quickly. Some toilet door locks need a bit of attention as they were stiff and difficult to unlock. Rubbish bins instructions out of date and could only find the general waste bin outside.
Had a fantastic holiday experience at Pippin. ..property was as described, very clean and in a great location. All furnishings, appliances, bedrooms etc were of the highest quality. Would definitely book again. A couple of minor issues, we could not find a pair of scissors or any oven gloves! If they were there they are not obvious....and though no fault of the owners, it could be such a lovely view from the balcony if it wasn't for the height of the neighbours trees obscuring the view! But, overall it is a lovely place...happy to recommend staying here.
Lovely comfortable house, great views!
Spacious home, with large living area, three good sized bedrooms and additional study or snug, was perfect for of family holiday with three generations. Good location, walking distance to the supermarket, pub, beaches and coastal walks, and bus services to Lyme Regis and Bridport. Lovely views from the balcony to the sea. Large kitchen, well equipped, great for family dinners. And very quiet! Driveway entrance is a bit tight, but adequately explained in the description, with space for two cars we parked our third car up on the main road. Upon arrival, there were issues with the upstairs toilet, but the local property manager came around immediately once wed reported it, to sort a temporary repair. He advised someone would be in first thing the following morning to complete the repairs unfortunately, the issue was worse when we woke the next morning, and we called to advise this on the emergency phone. A plumber did arrive and do repairs in the morning, while we were out. When we discovered the toilet was still not working properly, we called the Sykes Cottages again, and the plumber returned within 5 minutes ! and fixed the problem. He apologised, rectified the problem, explained what to do if any further issues. Excellent service. We were impressed with speed of the response, and the follow up by both the property manager, and the plumber. Everything was done so quickly. Would not hesitate in renting via Sykes again, as understand things can go wrong and very happy with the service and response time.

Really nice house, good condition and homely. We had a great stay.
Everything about pippins was great, location, facilities and cleanliness, with two minor exceptions. Firstly the heating is impossible to control and upstairs is always cold whilst downstairs roasted! That was overcome with the oil heaters and log burner so minor issue. Secondly, the WiFi has expired, so whilst we could connect easily, there was no internet.
Had a great week in Pippin. Weather was mixed including a storm but the house was cosy, warm and well equipped. Plenty of room for 4 adults and an 8 year old. Only a 10 minute walk form the beach would definitely recommend
Jennifer
This was our second time at Pippins, a lovely house for a holiday stay. Light, warm and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen for serious cooking, and well placed in the village for beach and all facilities. We were disappointed that the shower trays still hadnt been cleared out, meaning very quick showers before the water spilt all over the floor. There was another issue which Lyme Bay Holidays eventually dealt with, but unfortunately this meant I can only give it 4 stars.
Positives Great location for Charmouth facilities and beach. Cottage tucked away from road and nice and quiet with parking. Well stocked for crockery etc in kitchen, furnishings were to a high standard, nice to have 3 proper sized bedrooms. Generous welcome pack on arrival. Negatives both showers blocked based on previous reviews we were disappointed it hadn't been sorted weeks later. Toilet flushes were temperamental leaving saniflows cycling on and off every 2 minutes. The lack of blinds in living room meant this room was stiflingly hot without the bifolds being open but then you get hornets in the house. Finally the cottage info folder had out of date 2019 tide times and conflicting info about recycling and bin days and the second set of keys promised in the info book were no where to be seen.
An extremely difficult place to find but once located a good spot between Bridport and Lyme Regis. The narrow drive to the property would definitely put me off returning as it was barely wide enough for a family car. The property was reasonably clean and well equipped and the hamper was a nice touch. We only found one dishwasher tablet for our stay, two or three would have been better. Overall a good place to stay.
We had a lovely time hunting fossils, getting rained on by the British summer weather and staying in this super little cottage. We recommend Baroque in Lyme for dinner. Thank you for the welcome pack, much appreciated. We hope to return!
Lovely spacious cottage in quiet location but close to beach. We had a happy week inspite of the weather. Thank you. A couple of minor points there were no oven gloves, only one not very sharp knife and the en suite shower is coming away from the wall. Also outside tap not working would be v useful after muddy fossil hunting!
Such a brilliant place to stay. It was the perfect location and so comfortable and clean. Would definitely stay again. Photos don't do the living space justice it was so gorgeous. A new shower head needed in en suite bathroom. Non stick frying pans for the kitchen would be great.
Fabulous property, with a wonderful view, really enjoyed our stay and the kitchen, with its equipment, is the best we have stayed in. Charmouth perfect for fossil hunting, especially after taking part in the guided walk. The only problem is the shower in the ensuite, which definitely needs a new head, water is going everywhere over your lovely bathroom.
A fantastic house with superb facilities and location. Overall experience slightly spoilt by booking agencies poor admin and shower drains being blocked which largely prevented them from being used. For the 2 night stay this was manageable but for any longer it would have been a larger issue. I would certainly stay again
Beverley
Pippin is absolutely beautiful and we had a lovely stay. The location was perfect for a walk into Charmouth and a short drive to Lyme Regis. Getting through the arch to park was interesting but the instructions telling us to go down the road and turn into it from the left really helped. Would definately stay again and recommend to others
Jennifer
We loved the property and had a really good time there. Warm, very comfortable, and so sunny and light with a gorgeous view. Charmouth beach is so interesting. The village facilities, and local farm shops meant supplies were easily accessible.. Walking to Lyme Regis along the beach at very low tide and back on the coast path was so enjoyable we did it twice. Just a few things we noticed about the house It was very dark in the kitchen . Cooker hood lights had both gone, we found bulbs and managed to fit them but its still dark especially over the sink. The shower tray in the bathroom filled whilst showering. Dishwasher filter had not been cleaned for ages. Bins bit confusing re info on recycling and we werent sure we were doing it right.
We had a wonderful time relaxing stay in Pippin Cottage, Charmouth, the beds were very comfortable and the cottage very spacious, airy and light. The cooking facilities were great with good laundry facilities too. We enjoyed the wonderful view from the balcony where we sat and watched the sun go down. The situation of the cottage is within easy access to town for meal and drinks out or fabulous fish and chips after a lovely evening stroll. The beach is within easy walking distance. We would be happy to book again.
We the Kurtevs family could not have had a better time at the villa, absolutely loved it and once more we thank you. Our stay at Pippin was magical beyond all expectations. The villa was very clean and simply beautiful, it was just like home. We spent a few days back in 2020 with our then 6 months old boy and we loved it. The rooms were so well lit by the natural light coming in and the wood burner made our stay very special, proper idyllic young family time. We enjoyed great walks near the coast, only a few minutes away and the local community was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this villa.
Pippin is a great holiday property a few minutes' walk to the coast ,in Dorset. Spacious and comfortable accommodation which is well equipped ,with nice interior decor ,and a balcony to enjoy the sea view. Superb location for walking, fossil hunting & visiting the Dorset attractions.
