Captains House Reviews

Jacqueline
Lovely house in the perfect spot. The sea views are incredible & you can happily spend hours sat watching the world go by. We were a family group of 8 made up of 3 generations & there was plenty of space for us all & everyone enjoyed the stay. The bedrooms were all lovely, good hot showers in the bathrooms & a really well equipped kitchen. It was a bit tricky packing up the car at the end of our stay as we couldn't get the car down to the house, as the road was busy with deliveries, but that was our only complaint. We parked our second car in the same car park as the reserved space we just called the number on the board there & paid for an additional space which was easier & cheaper than using the main car park.
For a larger group you couldnt pick a better house in such a perfect location
Lovely house in a great location.
Fabulous house with pretty much everything you could need. Modern functional bathrooms, interestingly decorated reception rooms and a well laid out kitchen. Couldn't be better for all the sites and facilities in Lyme and the surrounding area. Lovely view across the Cobb and harbour from the terrace. Vehicle access to the front door to load and unload isn't the easiest but everyone was patient and it all went fine. Would heartily recommend Captains House.
Location, location, location! This property is right on the seafront and has an absolutely perfect location for all things beach and holiday. We took a team for a weekend away and it had everything we needed comfy beds, fluffy towels, each room with its own bathroom. Incredible views. Lovely welcome package with milk, coffee, tea, juice, crisps, chocolate and cake. Places to eat within walking distance, and we were able to get into the sea without even putting shoes on before running swiftly back into the shower to warm up again! The balconyterrace was so good to people watch, but watch out for those naughty seagulls if you eat up there!!
Angela
A fabulous place to stay in Lyme Regis, centrally located with the best balcony to sit and sip champagne for a special birthday! Amazing views to watch the world go by. The house is fully stocked with everything you need, really comfortable beds and a great social kitchen area. We loved it and will definitely be returning.

We had a lovely stay at this holiday property and were impressed by several standout features
Excellent location a literal stone's throw from the beach. You are in the middle of the action, with bars and restaurants on the same strip, so great if you like the atmosphere as we did. The sunken garden is extremely private and even the ravenous seagulls didn't disturb us as we ate. We loved sitting on the balcony and watching the sea and the people walking by. The house is a great size we were 7 adults and had plenty of space and one bathroom per bedroom was luxury. It's well equipped, was squeaky clean and well maintained. We had one problem with the back door and it was fixed quickly and without disruption to us. We'd definitely recommend The Captain's House and come back again.
Great property which we have stayed almost every year over last 10 years. Every visit we see upgrades and improvements since our previous visit. The owner is very caring about her customers and always approachable. The location is amazing with views across and overlooking the beach with the promenade and town further, front door is literally around the corner from the beach access, about 30 second walk!

Extra parking would be good for a property this size ! !
The house is lovely! The location and beach balcony, all fab! A big improvement for us would have been for the outdoor furniture to have been cleaned, seagull poo on all chairs on balcony and on outdoor table. I know its a bit like painting the fourth bridge, but, if we had found them clean we would have cleaned any new deposits that happened while we were there. Not a big ask really. Otherwise, can't fault it.
Property was lovely however the heating was not controllable so several bedrooms and bathrooms had no heating throughout the stay. We tried the heating control panel but were not very successful. Trying to communicate with Sykes proved to be very difficult. All avenues of communication seemed to rely on AI which did not address my queries.
Jonathan
Lovely house but first night we had no heating and it was very cold amongst our party was 2 vulnerable people. It was not solved until mid afternoon the following day.
We had a fabulous few days at Captain's House which was extremely spacious, comfortably furnished and has an exceptional sea view from the rear balcony. I would not hesitate to book this accommodation for future visits to Lyme Regis.
Joanne
Overall we had a good stay however the dishwasher didnt work at all, which was very disappointing. Andy was very helpful however we really didn't appreciate having him in the house for such long periods over two days. We would have expected the appliances to have been checked before we arrived and, if there was a problem, for a professional to be sent in to efficiently sort the issue. The heating didnt seem to be working either. I would appreciate a response to this email as the property was not cheap to rent.
This is the second time we have stayed in your lovely house and we would definitely come again, circumstances permitting. We found everything to be in good order and I liked the room changes which had occurred since the first time we stayed. The aesthetics of the property really appeal to me and I would happily live there if I could, I can't recommend it more highly than that!
Yvonne
Amazing cottage, absolutely love it. Thanks for a fab stay. Cheers from Yvonne and the McQuillan family.
We had a lovely family get together at Captains House such a superb location for all age groups in our party everyone loved it so much they all want to come again! Couldnt recommend it more.
Caroline
HI .. Our stay was lovely, thank you . Great views from the living room so it didn't matter if the weather didn't entice you outside. Lots of space and have two areas to watch TV made life alot easier for those who have different viewing interests. Especialy if the weather is not good! A few points that would have ensured that we were would have been completely comfortable The weather, though luckily good, was not warm and the heating system is not easily understandable. A couple of the towel rails came on in the middle of the night. As it was warm we did not need it so turned down their separate thermostats but then when it was cold on the last day and we still had wet towels from the mornings showers and could not dry them, even though we turned up the separate thermostats, the heating did not come back on again. I knew, from the reviews that the heating might be an issue so it would be really helpful for all visitors to understand the way the system works. Also, could there be better detailed instruction for recycling. We took most of ours home but it would be good if we knew what to do with bottles etc while we were there so that we wouldn't have to. The beds were very comfortable they really were! We all really got some excellent holiday rest. Would definitely come back again as the location and space are perfect I would just like to be reassured that the heating would be controllable!.
We enjoyed a very good 4night stay at Captains House during the latter part of April. The property was wellequipped, and very well situated within touching distance of the beach and located directly opposite the famous Cobb. It was only seconds away from a number of pubs, restaurants and other amenities and within close walking distance of the town's High Street. The accommodation was comfortable and our party of 9 all thoroughly enjoyed the break. We were also pleased to find a number of good local walks nearby.
Nicola
We had a wonderful stay at the Captains House with our family. I wish we could have stayed longer. I was a bit dubious as the last few reviews were not favourable but it was comfortable, clean, my contact with the agency was superb when we forgot our speaker. The kitchen was well stocked with a few nice welcome gifts I love little touches like this. I was worried about the heating but it was warm when we arrived, on day 2 the heating did not come on but we worked out it was because the thermostat was above an electric heater near the stairs, once we turned that heater off, the heating then kicked in again. Beautifully furnished to a high standard and although it rained, we still enjoyed the outside as the view was spectacular. We sat out there in our umbrellas! Yes, we saw the diggers but that did not stop our enjoyment. Lyme Regis is a great place to visit for all, especially the pubs within walking distance. I would like to stay here again.
We stayed at Captains House last year. ..disappointed patio doors still not easy to open. Also heating wasn't effective...couldn't get towel rails in bathrooms hot so wet towels didn't dry. As thermostat high in kitchen the temperature registering there not reflective of rest of house, so was often cold. Did think more dishwasher tablets and toilet rolls could have been supplied.,as in other self catering properties they generally are, and this is listed as a gold star property. However love the position and Lyme Regis and would book again.
We booked the last week in August at a premium 6k price so we were expecting a really good experience. The family were delighted with the property and the rooms were comfortable. The small and large lounge areas were a disappointment but the kitchen was very comfortable and a good family area. There were a few niggles with equipment a broken shower in the downstairs twin bed a broken coffee maker and missing cork screw. I was mislead by the office about parking there is one allocated space for an occupancy of 9 but it is not next to the property but about 500 yds away. The two local car parks were rammed and cost around 22 per 24 hours an extra 200 expense. Access by car to the property is difficult so dropping off and picking up were a challenge . We left a day early one because of the weather and two because of a really strange smell dead mice? in the small downstairs lounge area. Overall, I did not think I got good value for the cost involved but nevertheless we had a good time with the family. Lyme is a very interesting town and the beach is fabulous.
Elaine
We felt enormously privileged to stay in this property. Three generations thoroughly enjoyed our week in the Captains House. The wonderful weather was an added bonus! We did experience some late night noise disturbance from the local pub and cafe. We feel there should be a gate at the top of the stairs leading to the balcony rather than just one at the bottom.
Yvonne
Fantastic in every way! Our second stay and just booked a third. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home. Loved the new seating and the welcome food and drinks are just the cherry on the cake.
We have been coming to the Captains house for 10 years and absolutely love it. A great family holiday. We did have an issue with the hot water in the showers. I phoned and a man was sent very quickly. Love coming here.
Really lovely holiday, lovely cottage with little extras added! Thank you !
Stuart
We have stayed here several times but this time was the most special, we used captains house to host our family for my daughters wedding, everything was perfect including the weather. Location is unbeatable and you have everything you need to enjoy a relaxed holiday
We all had a very enjoyable stay. The only comments we would make are Holiday information folder requires updating with reference to waste disposal and heating in sitting room which is now a wood burner with no provision of logs, as stated. These comments do not detract in any way from the lovely time we had together in the wonderful Captain's House. Many thanks.
Aisling
Lovely property in great location but unfortunately enormous diggers immediately in front of the house moving piles of sand on the closed beach. We think we ought to have been advised that this was happening during our stay. Also problems with the heating. Front bedroom was too cold to sleep in. Problem with heating reported to Sykes and nothing done. Otherwise, clean and nicely decorated with a well equipped kitchen in a lovely spot overlooking the sea and unfortunately the diggers!!
Eleanor
Great property in the perfect location. We were expecting one of the upstairs rooms to have a king bed rather than the two singles we found on arrival but other than that a brilliant weekend!
We loved staying at Captains House. The location of the house is perfect and the view from the living room and on the balcony is amazing. The house itself is in a beautiful condition and the layout of the house really worked well for us. The steps to the balcony are steep but we knew that from all the information, there is a gate at the bottom to stop children going up but I think it would be better if there was one at the top too, we managed to keep our 2 year away but a gate at the top would of made it more worry free. We would stay at Captains House again!
When we went into the house at 16. 00 the heating was switched off. Is was quite cold. In the small longe off the kitchen the door to outside is warped and doesnt close properly causing a draught . Needs fixing.
Captains house was an exceptional place to stay Location fantastic Facilities everthing you needed and more. A couple of the rooms smelt a bit musty on arrival but soon aired out My only two gripes were 1. Arrived in the dark and didnt see the step into property so maybe a sensor light in hallway would have been good. 2. Steps to terrace very steep and slippy when wet so more adequate hand rails could be added. Other than that very comfy, very homely, very cosy and warm.
Excellent service by both Lyme Bay Holidays and the owner of both the properties our family stayed in.
Samantha
The WiFi was a bit of a nightmare because there is one router shared between two houses. We love the location of this property and it is one we come back to again and again thank you
Yvonne
Fantastic property, excellent in every way! Drinks and nibbles left for us on arrival greatly appreciated! Thank you so much, very kind of you. Loved it and rebooked for same week next year.
