Harbourside House Reviews

This property has a great location & view The house needs a total deep clean. It was dirty. The dishwasher was disgusting The radiator is my room couldn't be regulated for temperature, should have been checked. Maintenance did come very quickly, and turned it off. Pool table isn't really a pool table Sittingroom looks tired I was disappointed with this property Sykes were very difficult to get hold off prior to stay, holding for 50 minutes at the most before speaking with someone. Not impressed by them at all
Catherine
Simply wonderful location with the river view the highlight. Close to shops, pubs, and river and esplanades walks. Beds are very comfortable and the house is homely and wellequipped. There is something quite special about the location.
Still our favourite place, ideal base for our family. Little tied in places but still a great property. Location is first class and the views that we always enjoyed by all the family. Looking forward to 2026

Our third year of staying at Harbourside House as we love the area so much! I think I've written 3 reviews now, and yet again have to say that the cleaningmaintenance is still not that great. Please, Dream Cottages, will you put on extra cleaners or give them more time I would actually pay a bit more for that! I was told that a plumber would come and repair the very wobbly tap and dishwasher door, but he never came. The fridge was very warm and our food went off, some kitchenware was dirty, there was someone else's peas in the icecube tray and there was a used bar of soap, hairy shower trap and a few other bits of rubbish in the 2nd floor ensuite. I did send an email, but had no reply. Please sort it out, because we'd love to book again!
Fantastic location and views from the lounge. Its been refurbished pretty well given the age of the building. Cleanliness could be improved by decluttering the house, theres far too much stuff thats not needed and gives the cleaners an impossible task to turn it around fast. Overall its a nice place and decent value for money. We enjoyed our stay immensely.
Fabulous position on quayside and surprisingly quiet at night. Useful parking permit and no problem finding a space in carpark near by. The venetian blinds were a pain to openclose and with such a beautiful outlook it's a shame cleaning the front windows isn't more of a priority. Everything else as advertised. There's no need for the dozens of grubby cushions in lounge.

We always tend to stay in this property because of the location and its size. Unfortunately each time we visit we see things that are being neglected. The shaving mirror in the uppermost double room is hanging off the wall minus the actual mirror. There is no toilet roll holder just the fitting plate on the wall Our son also mentioned what appears to be woodlice crawling all over one of the beds in the twin room on the uppermost floor. I suspect they might be coming out of the air vent and landing on the bed but there is several on the bed and not what Id expect in a holiday home. These properties arent cheap and I would expect better standards The pots and pans had to be washed before we could use them as there was food debris on them and some of the glasses were all smeared and didnt appear clean We love Weymouth and this property is ideal for the size of our party so its a shame the attention to detail is lacking. I was told if I got in touch sooner theyd send someone out, this shouldnt be down to me. Your maintenance and cleanliness should be inspected and signed off before a customers arrival. Its the perfect property if it were not so neglected I hope this is all put right before next years holiday, its such a shame
The property and equipmentfacilities are fantastic. 2nd stay and will book it again. Some things definitely improved from last year eg. WiFi. We were really disappointed with the chocolate that was left by previous occupants on the sofa 2 pairs of trousers needed washing. I dont honestly know if cleaners should have spotted it but there was a lot of it. The views are amazing but the windows looked like they hadnt been cleaned in a long time and that, I think, is the only thing that could have been improved. Beautiful house.
Overall a good central holiday rental, but it needs a good deep clean, lots of dust, cobwebs and sticky bannisters. A few maintenance issues, loo roll holder in top floor bedroom missing, and shaving mirror broken. Freezer needed de frosting as so much ice you couldnt put things in it.

A beautifully equipped property in a superb location. Comfy beds, lovely furniture. Negatives property had not been cleaned properly, rubbish was left on decking, unclean tables, windows are filthy, window seat filthy, kettle full of limescale. Encountered no electric on 1st day, called to report to Sykes as soon as they opened 7.5 hours later engineer called to fix the issue. Sent numerous messages to Sykes regarding complaint since weve returned home all ignored.

We've now stayed at Harbourside House twice and love it! Fantastic location in walking distance of restaurants, gardens, shops and beach. The house is very well equipped but a bit of extra cleaning and little bit of maintenance could improve it drastically. There were quite dusty shelves and a shower head not working. The outside area could have benefitted from a sweep and cushions being left, rather than having to ring for them. The outside plastic plants let it down. Maybe just a couple of miniature conifers in pots would look nice and they don't need watering. All in all though a lovely stay and we'll be back again Thank you!
Harbour side house was perfect for our family and friends. We really enjoyed this house. The views was amazing. Waking up to those views each morning was just amazing. The kitchen had everything you needed and more. Only bad thing was it could have been a bit cleaner it just needs a really good clean not a basic clean. But would definitely stop there again and would definitely recommend to anybody. Perfect location for us as we love the harbour.
Lovely spacious house very clean and kitchen well stocked. Lovely views over the harbour and very comfortable beds. Would highly recommend.
Our family of 8 had a wonderful week at Harbourside House. The facilities were exceptional, the views breathtaking and ideally located. We had to contact Sykes cottages for some minor faults but these were dealt with quickly and efficiently. The only complaint I would have, would be the lack of wardrobe space in the master bedroom, as one complete side of the wardrobe has been utilized as linen storage for the household, leaving 1 side in use for hanging clothes for 2 people, which was further hampered by 2 linen sacks of towels being stored there.
Sharon
A very comfortable, well positioned property. Lovely decoration and outside area. The only thing that let the property down was the cleanliness. Some examples are, scaly shower heads, scaly kettle, dust on fire in front room, marks all over glass table in front room , lots of crumbs down side of sofa by games cupboard in front room, cobwebs on pictures, dust and crumbs under beds. I felt the property needed a good deep clean and then to be maintained at that level. The door knob was not fitted correctly on the top floor ensuite bathroom and the door would not open. The company came out quickly to repair and all was fixed in a few minutes, great service.
Sheila
The two mattresses in the top single beds are too large for the frames making for a lopsided sleep. . we had to stuff spare bedding under mattresses to rectify this We couldnt get any of the bedroom TVs working Apart from the above it is an exceptional house, very well appointed ..
Joanne
Having stayed here 5 years ago in the same property I was disappointed. There were food deposits on some of the crockery and I never used the frying pans because they were also dirty upon my arrival and in addition some of the crockery is badly chipped or cracked and needs replacing. A proper inspection before my arrival would have been good, the attention to detail was lacking compared to my last stay in this property. Lots of fixtures and fittings need attention, mostly minor things that could benefit a snagging list and attention. I raised some of these with Sykes but was put out when the engineer came during my holiday when I clearly stated these should wait until after my departure. The dishwasher in the kitchen is covered in limescale and it doesnt clean the dishes thoroughly because of this and probably needs replacing or servicing . I had to hand wash items afterwards and it also didnt appear to dry the dishes properly so I had to towel dry to make sure everything was ready to use. It is in an enviable location and the excellent games room with pool table is the main selling point and why I have rebooked for next year. I do hope a snagging list is compiled and acted upon. One of the bedroom doors is coming off its hinges, a towel rail had come away from the wall, an extendable shaving mirror had lost a rivet and a little screw kept falling out that was being used instead. Mostly minor things but collectively made me feel the asking price for the rental should have been reflected in the quality and maintenance of the place. It has so much potential to be perfect if the time is spent on it.
Great holiday house and felt very homely with lots of lovely pictures and ornaments. Kitchen well equipped but lacked food storage space. All rooms beautiful. Garden area lovely too. Pool table was enjoyed by all. Only downside was the noise from the local youngsters late nightearly morning shoutingsinging and getting onto the fishing boats. Should be more police checks to curb this. We have previously stayed around the harbour many times but this year was the worst we have experienced for antisocial behaviour. However this is a local issue nothing to do with this beautiful house. Our family would definitely like to holiday there again. Thank you.
Really lovely house in a perfect location for all the family.
This is our 2nd year at Harbourside and we will hopefully come back next year. The house is beautiful, well stocked and always clean. The views from the lounge and 2 front bedrooms are gorgeous. My family love this house.
Alison
We love Weymouth so much, we've visited in three times in two years! Harbourside House ticked every box as far as location, size and outside space was concerned. Travelling with young adult children, the house offered everything we needed and we all love the location with views, pubs, restaurants and shops on the doorstep. The only small thing that could be rectified was that the cleaning could have been a bit better. Kitchen appliances were stained and some crockery and pans not quite clean. I brought my own dishwasher tablets but I think there should be dishwasher salt provided in the machine. The outside table was dirty, so I cleaned that and I had to ring Dream Cottages for the outside cushions. They were brilliant and the cushions were supplied very quickly, so not a big problem....Also a couple towels and toilet rolls missing. Nothing major, just attention to detail, and I do know there's probably a quick turnaround. Not enough to take a star off. Thank you
Lovely house, beautiful views across the harbour lovely outside area at the back to sit in too. Spacious bedrooms with lots of bathrooms. Would highly recommend this property
Pamela
Lovely location, near all the bars, restaurants, beach and Forte. Nice for people watching. House lovely and warm, could do with better internet connection and more cupboard space in kitchen to store food. Could not get hob to work but Dream Cottages came quickly and sorted out the problem. Isolator switch not turned on. Nice garden but did not use it because of the weather.
The property was ideal to bring all the family together the 4 bedrooms and bathrooms helped give everyone their own space too. Great location, right on the waterfront my grandson loved standing at the sitting room bay window, watching the world go by below him! I would definitely recommend this property. We got what we paid for.
We loved this house. It was so well situated with stunning views. The beds were very comfortable I have a bad back , and the house was very well equipped. It was a very comfortable place to stay. We would love to return again in the future.
Lovely house, lots of games, pots and pans, everything you could need. Needs a good clean as in dusting, and the showers need a good clean. Mould in showers a little off putting and light in shower doesnt work. Otherwise a really perfect holiday home. Great position for the beach and sight seeing. Bring slippers for upstairs, carpets are nice and clean and rightfully owner states no shoes upstairs. Fantastic people watching window. It also has a parking permit of which we was told it didnt, and was told we would receive 20 back, so we paid for parking pre visit somewhere else so lost out by 40!! Lots to do in the area.
The house itself is lovely. Whole house very clean, nicely decorated with a wonderful outdoor area that we used ALL the time. The only downside is the top floor shower that doesnt run fully which was annoying. Shelving in bathroom hanging off which will hopefully be rectified soon. However, we have booked for next year. A big shout out to the Dream Cottages team who were incredibly helpful and friendly.
There were no fans in the property and the weather was hot . We did not realise that the property was in an area that was noisy at night and the blinds in the bedroom in the front were not dark enough. There were mice in the back garden. The fuse box tripped once and we had no power including the fridge for 30 mins. When we rang the emergency number we were told someone would come the next morning . No one did come nor did we receive an email confirming this as promised. The bedding was not clean on one bed when we arrived . There were blood stains on the bedding. Could there be a book for guests to put things in that need doing such as which light builds need changing as this may help the next guests?
Brenda
Cleanliness, comfort & kitchen facilities all first class. Harbour views are the best. Spacious lounge. Only extra I personally would like is a grab rail in showerbath please. Have booked again for next year!! Thank you
This is the fourth time we have stayed at this property. We have always loved the location and facilities offered at this property. Sadly the lack of car parking permits for 2 vehicles is a let down as we booked on the understanding there were 2 permits. A number of fixtures and fittings need some TLC to bring it back up to standard. Also had issues with lack of hot water for a few days. Great property, great location with plenty of space.
The location of the property on the edge of Weymouth harbour is exceptional. Just a few minutes walk to the town centre and to the beautiful beach. It is in the heart of the restaurant pub area so some noise is expected but this didn't affect us. The property is very well equipped, the kitchen dinning area has everything you could possible need and the outside space was well laid out with ample seating. There is no BBQ facility but this is understandable given the fire risk. The four bedrooms are spacious and comfortable and there are four well equipped bathrooms. We had an issue with one of the pull light switches in the bathroom which was reported to the local Sykes office and they arranged for an electrical to fix it the same day. Impressive customer service. The lounge is large and plenty big enough to comfortably seat 8 people. There have been some comments about parking however we didn't have any problems even though it was the Jubilee bank holiday and Weymouth was busy. You get one parking permit which allows you to park one car in Zone L which has parking spaces almost outside the property. This is on a first come first served basis and available for general parking for upto an hour so spaces are at a premium but in the late evening we had no problem parking. We didn't use the car that much anyway as public transport covered everything we needed. We did use the North Quay car park which is around 500yds from the property for a second car and booked a weeks car parking through the Just Park App for c. 40 and this was fine. On the whole this is a great property which I would highly recommend. We are already looking at rebooking.
Arrived at property at allocated time 4pm cleaners still there left at 445pm which was inconvenient and disappointing although the cleaners were apologetic. We booked cottage that t would have 2 parking spaces but due to council only 1 availible. App for car park in Notts forte would not let us pay weekly so had to get up very early to make sure we played at 8am every morning which was inconvenient
Nicola
We have just spent a wonderful week at Harbourside house. The location was brilliant, the facilities offered were great with a really well stocked kitchen and a lounge full of games, dvds and a cleverly thought out house. Pros included the above and a super games room for all our party, beautiful bedding and well appointed bedrooms, a nice welcome pack and a great outside seating area used daily as we had amazing weather. Cons included the fact that the outside area had not been cleaned at all so we all cleared the leaves and cleaned it, we couldnt find how to recycle, the kitchen is tight for 8 people and a high chair, the top shower room shower wasnt up to the standard of the others, and the front windows could have done with a clean particularly the lounge. Having said all that we have already recommended it to friends and the grown up children all from London absolutely loved it particularly the views and the location. We will definitely book it again. A big thanks to the owners.
Catherine
Negatives The shower on the landing on the top floor didn't work properly and need fixing. The duvet on one of the beds on the top floor was a summer duvet and not suitable for use in winter. We had to gather blankets for the person in that bed to be comfortable over night. Positives The house was very comfortable and had great amenities. Short walk to the beach, shops and lovely pubs. Will definitely book again as a great house in a great location.
Really enjoyed our stay at the Harbourside House so much so we have booked it again for next New Year, our only complaint was that we could not adjust the heating and hot water and some of the bathrooms needed regrouting to get rid of the build up of mildew and the top floor bathroom shower need attention as only a trickle came out and kept going cold but overall impressed with location and the house was nicely furnished and well equipped.
Super property, especially for visits outside summer. Very impressed with wide range of seating and kitchendining equipment, interesting furnishing, spaciousness. and view of river from living room. Beds very comfortable. Wifi rather slow and some signs of decorative tiredness, particularly in some bathrooms, Top bathroom electric shower weak and middle bathroom showertap setting needs servicing.
Lester
Location was great, good restaurants close by. Beautiful water views. No welcome pack which is a real shame, long trip would be nice to have a cup of tea on arrival. One toilet roll per toilet. Shower needs regrouting to get rid of the mould no window in some of them. Kitchen was well kitted out. Deck was a nice touch. Washer and Dryer provided. Lots of furniture in sitting room. About 8 mins to car park, which was ok because it didn't rain. 3 females had a good break.
Teresa
Only 2 of the 4 bedrooms are actually ensuite. The shower on top floor bathroom needs replacing, only a trickle comes out and kept going cold or turning off completely. Nowhere to store food in the kitchen . Needs a lick of paint. Lots of lightbulbs needs replacing.
We felt at home immediately in this beautifully furnished, clean and comfortable house. Loved the window seat, watching the boats and activity in the harbour. Lots of TVs, games and the pool table to enjoy. The outside decked area at the back is a real asset too. There was little space to store food on the kitchen surfaces and in cupboards, but not really a problem. We would definitely recommend!
